Guidelines for Amrap Grants - Program Promotion

Please read the general information for all applicants prior to submitting an application.

1. What's the objective of Australian Music Program Promotion grants?

To increase the audience of Australian music programs on community radio stations in non-Metropolitan areas.

2. Who is eligible to apply?

  • a community radio station with a long-term or a temporary licence, located outside of Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth
  • a Remote Indigenous Media Organisation, applying on behalf of RIBS stations

Creative partnerships between stations and organisations whose goals are compatible with those of community broadcasting are encouraged, however the application must come from the station.

Grants are not available to stations broadcasting under a narrowcast licence. A station with a temporary licence must have been on air for at least two years cumulatively prior to applying.  Additional conditions are imposed on temporary licensees with regard to ownership of assets purchased with the grant.

3. How much can you apply for?

Up to $500 per grant. A maximum of one application per station can be submitted per grant round.

4. What makes a program eligible for funding?

Stations can promote one or multiple Australian music programs to their local community. Each program must meet the following conditions:

  • it is being broadcast regularly (weekly) on or before the grant submission date
  • it is at least 1 hour per week
  • it is locally produced
  • it has at least 60% music content
  • all music content is Australian music - defined as any genre of music written, composed or performed by Australians
  • at least 50% of all music content is contemporary - defined as music released in the past 12 months
  • it is broadcast between 6 am and midnight
  • it complies with standards of the Australian Communications and Media Authority and sector Codes of Practice

You may be requested to submit a copy of the program to ensure that it meets eligibility criteria. If that copy of the program does not comply with the guidelines, the program will be deemed ineligible for funding. You should monitor your own program regularly to ensure it is within the funding guidelines.

5. What can you use the grant for?

Funding is available to promote Australian music programs on non-Metropolitan community radio stations to the local community. All promotional material should directly promote the Australian music program(s) on your station, as well as the station itself.

Funds can be used for:

  • A bulk postal mail out to the community
  • Placing print ads in the local press
  • Printing and design costs for posters, postcards or fliers for distribution in the local community
  • A maximum of $100 for administration and/or time spent preparing the grant application and acquittal

What conditions apply?

Projects must be completed 4 months after receiving the grant

6. What can't you use the grant for?

  • Station-based on-air announcements or in-house promotions
  • Promotion of non-Australian music programs
  • Promotional events or performances

7. What does the Grants Advisory Committee look at when assessing your application?

Applications will be competitively assessed and prioritised by reference to the following assessment criteria:

  • Merit - your application provides a strong and clearly articulated case for funding
  • Objective - you demonstrate that your station's Australian music program(s) will gain wider community awareness from the promotional campaign
  • Value - your proposal represents value for money
  • Timeliness - your application is submitted by the closing date
  • Completeness - the information you have provided including attachments listed on the application form is sufficient for the Committee to assess your application
  • Previous reporting - you have met all reporting requirements for previous CBF grants

In addition the committee gives priority to projects that:

  • Reflect the diversity of Australian music in terms of genre, culture, language and geographical location. The Australian Music Grants Advisory Committee aims to fund a diverse range of music content in each grant round.
  • Involve local, up and coming or emerging Australian musicians
  • Involve women, youth, seniors, people with a disability or people with an Indigenous or CALD (Culturally and Linguistically Diverse) background

8. What should you include in the application?

  • One copy of each part of the grant application including the completed application form A.4 and all quotes and attachments. Please refer to the checklist at the bottom of page one of the application form
  • One copy of the required Applicant Information, if not previously supplied. Please refer to the checklist at the bottom of page one of the application form
