Digital Radio Project

Digital radio sits alongside AM and FM as an alternative free-to-air radio transmission platform.

With CBF funding support 36 community radio stations located in Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney operate digital community radio services.

This funding supports the shared transmission and program contribution infrastructure for 38 services.  The Digital Radio Project is managed by the Community Broadcasting Association of Australia (CBAA).

The data and image capabilities of digital radio provide a further opportunity for innovation and creative development of radio as a medium.

Total listenership for digital radio services in the five mainland capital cities each week is over 3 million or just over 24% of the total listening audience.
