Perth radio reading service grows and grows
The CBF supported Vision Australia to re-introduce a much-needed Radio Reading (RPH) service in Perth. When the previous service ceased to broadcast in January 2015, the response from the low vision community was immediate - they needed an RPH service!
CBF support helped Vision Australia to purchase equipment and the furnishings required to make studios ready for broadcast. The grant also helped to secure the services of a part-time Program Director and Coordinator of Volunteers.
The station has received a lot of positive listener feedback since the service recommenced: “A caller from Perth rang to say she LOVES having Perth back on air. Says it’s AMAZING, FANTASTIC, BRILLIANT to hear the local programs. Her personal favourite – The Morning Paper Round – because she doesn’t have to try to read the big spreadsheet paper with her magnifying glass.”
Since commencing broadcasting in September 2015, Vision Australia Radio Perth has substantially increased local programming to 35 hours per week, and at last count there were about 80 volunteers... and growing!
