The Fitness Show - innovative health messaging

The Fitness Show introduces a physical fitness program which can be easily adopted within remote Indigenous peoples' lives. While watching the show viewers are encouraged to 'get up and join in' the exercises with the presenters, within the privacy of their own homes.

The Fitness Show presents an interactive, grass roots approach to health messaging, made for and by remote Indigenous people. Since being programmed on ICTV, Channel 601, feedback from remote communities has been extremely positive and the program is connecting well with audiences.

The $20,000 grant was used to produce a three episode series, with 28 people involved in the cast and crew.

The Fitness Show has been viewed over 1,500 times on IndigiTUBE.

ICTV now aim to develop a longer-form series of The Fitness Show, which could greatly improve the health and wellbeing outcomes in remote Indigenous communities.

“The program promotes positive role models for Indigenous men and women of all ages. The presenter, Charmaine Patrick, is an ideal role model, having run the New York Marathon, being a mother of two children, but still firmly having family roots in Hermannsburg.”
